10 Portfolio Management Apps for iPad

Back at the start of 2013 we compiled a list of 10 Fund Manager apps for iPad, so we thought it was time to look around the app store once again, but this time with a focus on portfolio management apps for iPad. By that we mean an app that can track your investments, whether they’re mutual funds, stocks or other assets with a portfolio or watch list feature. Every app has a different set of features, but what we are always keen to see is a rich set of tools that include some form of data visualization — which always brings the app experience to life.

 1. Portfolio Manager by Smart Code

Portfolio Manager has been developed to track assets, investment performance and cash flow. It helps you manage multiple portfolios in multiple currencies at the same time. Powered by a database of over 1,800 markets, it provides you with information about funds, bonds, commodities, futures options. It also comes with some good interactive data visualization tools.

2. CNNMoney Portfolio

CNNMoney Portfolio is designed to sync with your investment accounts and track all your stocks, funds, 401(k)s, and IRAs in real-time. The app syncs with over 60 brokerages including TD Ameritrade, Fidelity, E*Trade, and Vanguard, and includes portfolio charting tools and a news feed from a variety of sources.

3. 7IMagine

The 7IMagine app lets you compare how your investments are doing with a variety of market indices and other measures. Created by Seven Investment Management, this app lets you drill down into your portfolio by geography, by asset type and by account. You also get market and economic news and a wide choice of links to other news, opinion and lifestyle content.

Ticker is a dedicated stocks portfolio tracker with access to stocks, ETFs, currencies and funds. Manage multiple portfolios with real-time push notification alerts for price, volume and % changes. Data visualization has been built into each aspect of the UI.

5. StockPro: Real-time Stock Tracker

StockPro is a feature-packed app for watching stocks. It includes live quotes, pre-market/after-hour quotes, portfolio monitoring, watchlists, advanced full screen charting, push notification alerts, economic news, event/earnings calendar and market signal scans.

6. Bloomberg for iPad

Bloomberg is one of the most popular apps in the Finance category in iTunes. It includes global business and finance news, market data and portfolio tracking tools. The watch list feature allows you to track, manage and analyze your personal holdings (stocks, mutual funds, ETFs, currencies etc.)

7. StockTouch

Although this app is not strictly a portfolio monitoring tool, I’m including it as the UI is experimental and innovative. The heat map effect has been applied across the app’s UI to create a cool, immersive user experience. Users can create their own personal heat maps of favorite stocks and ETFs, synced through iCloud.

8. Yahoo Finance

Yahoo combines two of it’s strongest areas of expertise — finance and news — into this iOS app. Users can add stocks to a watchlist for a personalised news stream and get real-time updates and analysis on the stocks in a portfolio.

9. Stock Master

Stock Master is a sophisticated trading app for real traders. The UI is a little hectic but as listed in iTunes it’s designed to “bring you a streamlined mobile stock market experience.” With more advanced portfolio features, users can view account value, market value, cost basis, and today’s gain in a native portfolio chart.

10. Stock Guru Pro

($19.99/£13.99; in-app purchases available)

Stock Guru is an app that can help investors evaluate stocks in four major categories: risk, valuation, financial strength and momentum. It comes with watch list features as well as detailed charts, recent relevant news and information about where the stock is traded and the indices it belongs to.
